Fashion Week Goes Vegan

Okay, maybe that's an overstatement (for now)! However, this past Fashion Week, I had the unique opportunity to be the lead makeup artist for the first all-vegan show, Vaute Couture. Designer Leanne Mai-Ly Hilgart presented her super-cute Fall/Winter 2013 collection, created using animal-free, recycled and sustainable materials. I designed the makeup look for the show using the lovely vegan beauty brand, DeVita Natural Skincare and Color Cosmetics

The collection was inspired by a balance of masculine and feminine elements, so I chose to pair full, strong brows with a bright pop of color on cheeks, using DeVita's Tender Blush. Designer Leanne loves the anime character Sailor Moon, so we added some star-confetti to the cheekbones in honor of her!

The show was sponsored by the Humane Society of New York and even featured adorable rescue dogs that were up for adoptionSalon Champu, a salon in the Lower East Side, did a fabulous job styling with vegan hair products. The whole presentation was beautiful, inspiring and really proved that eco fashion can be cool, trendy and cruelty-free at the same time. A very welcome breath of fresh air for the fashion industry, I would say!

Big thank you's to DeVita and Vaute... and to my awesome makeup team for bringing the vision to life! See more pictures and behind the scenes video!
