More Minter

I share Marilyn Minter's love of glittery, glossy eyes...

Dani Evans Cover

This is the final product from my shoot with Dani back in May. The Summer '09 issue is out a bit later than anticipated and the credits are incomplete but I'd rather appreciate the beauty than complain to you all ;) But just for clarification, on the cover: makeup by Rebecca Casciano, hair by Elsa Canedo. Here's to summer fashion!

Graffiti Luv

These pics were taken at the AfroPunk Festival in Brooklyn this summer. I regret I did not get the names of the artists who contributed these pieces to the mural, but I thought they were hot-props!

M.A.C. Honors the Artists

This season, artists Richard Phillips, Maira Kalman and phoptographer Marilyn Minter were asked to interpret M.A.C.'s Fall '09 color collection thru their own mediums. Utilizing makeup, painting, computer design and photography, the artists created the campaign entitled Make-Up Art Cosmetics (M.A.C.'s full name ;)
I think it's a great new twist for a makeup line to celebrate all forms of art, being that it inspires so much of what we do. Upon doing a little research, I found out that Richard Phillips and Marilyn Minter each had pieces featured on Gossip Girl last fall! Apparently art imitates art, imitates art. The video is lovely!

Long Live The Bob

1920's hair mags

Louise Brooks

Peggy Moffit

Catherine Zeta Jones in Chicago

Salt n Pepa

Linda Evangelista

Perhaps one of the most classic and relevant hairstyles in history, the bob became all the rage in the 1920's and hasn't left the scene since. The hairstyle caused a revolution when women began cropping their long locks out of convenience and a new-found independence. As they joined the work force, women of the 1920's felt empowered to claim their equality to men on every level. Along with donning short hairstyles, they wore shapeless dresses, smoked cigarettes openly and enjoyed a sense of freedom like never before.
In addition to the classic style and the clean lines of the bob, I suppose the history is a big part of my affinity for it. Although it never really goes out of style, we have seen a resurgence of the bob in the 60's, 80's and again in the past few years with Victoria Beckham, Katie Holmes and Rihanna. I have been rockin' some version of the style for the past year or so and still loving it. If you're feelin' a bob too, I strongly suggest you see my stylist Jemma Muradian at Arte Salon! She is amazing and cuts with precision and flair (check out mine, upper left corner ;)

All That

Controversial yet compelling and totally brilliant! Leigh Bowery was a performance artist, designer, underground club persona and more. His makeup and wardrobe is out of this world! Wanna see more? Check out his story in the documentary The Legend of Leigh Bowery... prepare to be inspired and appalled at once!

Bellissima!

Recently I caught a couple of movies on my favorite channel, TCM (Turner Classic Movies) featuring this gorgeous goddess that is SOPHIA LOREN! I am totally in awe of her striking, exotic beauty. The super- high cheekbones, exaggerated cat-eyes and voluptuous Italian curves made her the ultimate in sex symbols of the 50's and 60's. Sophia, now 75, has aged so gracefully and continues to be a muse in fashion and beauty. LOVE her!
