Those who know me, know of my 20+ year passion for all things Prince. I'm soo excited to get his new album, LotusFlower, especially after seeing him rock out on Jay Leno the other nite! He's just brilliant, beautiful and still sexy as hell to me ;)

I came across fab artist Dana Cowie while referencing Vogue covers for a prior post, and I am in LOVE with the way she paints faces! Inspired by fashion from the past to present, Dana interprets supermodels like Cheryl Tiegs, Naomi Campbell and Twiggy with an abstract, bold style. Using lots of bright colors, patterns and layers gives her work an interesting, unique quality. Based in Toronto, Canada, Cowie has worked as a stylist, window dresser and life drawing instructor prior to her painting commissions. Another artist I hope to own a piece from!

The posters for this just went up recently at my subway stop and I thought it looked cool. When I pulled up the site I was blown away by the concept, talent and presentation of this project. Getting to see the process of photographing the portraits and landscapes from all over America is beautiful and inspiring. The resulting photos are featured in the book, "American Character: A Photographic Journey", with a foreword by Tom Brokaw. Designed to serve as an "artistic initiative", proceeds of the book go to USA's vision to end inequality and "promote acceptance and understanding"...

I haven't blogged much in the past week but I was totally inspired with the discovery of these gorgeous fashion and beauty illustrations from the 1950's. Wouldn't it be cool if we could incorporate more of this style in editorial and advertising today? Photographs are amazing but these illustrations are pretty exciting too! There's an element of fantasy and ultimately, the artists interpretation that makes them special.
